NEW CUMMINS-ALLISON MATCH
Cummins Inc. has announced a new 350-hp rating for its ISL engine, with 1,050 pounds-feet of torque. The rating was developed in conjunction with Allison Transmission to provide an optimized engine/drivetrain package aimed at the 4×2 short-haul truck market. “The combination of the Cummins ISL 350 and the smooth-running Allison MD3066 automatic transmission delivers weight savings up to 800 pounds, which is less than any competitive package for this market,” Cummins says.

HENDRICKSON AIRTEK ON VOLVO
The Hendrickson Airtek integrated front axle and air suspension is now available on Volvo’s new VN series truck models. These new vehicles feature Airtek as the standard front axle and suspension system on VNL 630, 670 and 780 models. Airtek can be specified as an option on small sleeper and day cab VNL models, as well as all VNM models. AIRTEK provides significant improvements over traditional steel spring and I-beam axle front suspensions and is up to 139 pounds lighter, the company says.

RAND MCNALLY UPDATES DATABASE
Rand McNally’s MileMaker database now includes distances generated by the new Household Goods Carriers’ Bureau Committee’s Mileage Guide 18, replacing those that have been in effect since 1997. The database reflects the network of truck-drivable roads (80,000-pound limits, with 10-foot lane widths, and bridge heights of 13 feet 6 inches) to calculate the shortest distance between any two points. It includes more than 7,600 new road segments, 28,000 road updates, 143,000 routable points, and 10,000 road classification changes.

LIFT AXLE CONTROL
Hendrickson International has introduced a new lift-axle air control kit that provides faster and more consistent lift-axle performance. Known as the AKAD1001, it’s approved for use with INTRAAX and HT series liftable suspensions.
