Officials advise drivers to avoid the Washington, D.C., area Capital Beltway I-95/I-495 South this weekend near the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Virginia, as workers do emergency repairs to an overpass that will narrow the highway to one lane from three.
Southbound Interstate 95 travelers are urged to use the northwest arc of the I-495/Capital Beltway, crossing the American Legion Bridge. Repairs are scheduled to be completed by Monday morning.
The 1961 bridge is slated for total replacement later this year as part of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, which includes rebuilding and expanding 7.5 miles of the Capital Beltway to 10-12 lanes.
