The Illinois Department of Transportation will close a section of Interstate 55/Interstate 70 to demolish the Exchange Avenue overpass at 9 p.m., Aug. 27.
Crews will close the interstate from just west of Illinois Route 203 to the I-55/I-70/I-64 interchange in East St. Louis during the demolition work. The interstate should reopen by 5 a.m. Aug. 30.
The detour for the closure is to use I-255 and I-64.
Additionally, crews will close Exchange Avenue from 9th Street to 7th Street in East St. Louis on Aug. 16. The ramps from I-55/I-70 to Exchange Avenue and from Exchange Avenue to I-55/I-70 will be closed at that time. Work on Exchange Avenue is expected to be complete and the bridge reopened in October 2011.
