FMCSA seeks to study drivers

Updated Oct 5, 2011

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said it plans to study differences among the characteristics of individual commercial drivers.

FMCSA says this information will aid the agency in developing future safety initiatives by examining driver and situational factors to determine if they are associated with increased or decreased crash and incident involvement.

FMCSA says the study would be handled through a research contractor and has submitted a request to the Office of Management and Budget for its review and approval.

The agency also has invited public comment. To comment, go to www.regulations.gov; the docket number is FMCSA-2011-0225.
