Strait from the Heart

The Road Less Traveled
George Strait

Here we go again, another George Strait album. Hold on partner, this one’s a horse of another color. The smooth-voiced Strait is back with a set of well-chosen, well-arranged songs. He continues to wow ’em, singing a suitably mature, wholly enjoyable version of Merle Haggard’s “My Life’s Been Grand,” and delivering “She’ll Leave You with a Smile” with a cool Texas drawl.

Strait even plays a little Shawn Camp on this album, and includes the 1973 lost classic “The Real Thing,” originally cut by Chip Taylor. The 10-song, 43-minute album is a whirlwind of emotion. The first single from the disc is “Run,” and country fans couldn’t get enough of it. After nearly 20 years of cranking out his cool Texas-styled music, Strait is synonymous with success.
