CFI Names Contractor Team of the Year

Contract Freighters Inc. honored John and Sherry Hufford of Bell, Fla., as the 2001 Contractor Team of Year. They joined CFI in 2000. CFI awarded the Huffords a trip to Hawaii and $1,000.

CFI also recently named its December 2001 drivers of the month. Company Driver of the Month was Gregg Felts of Las Cruces, N.M., who has driven for CFI for more than a year. Company Team Driver of the Month was awarded to Warren Fox and Vikie Lynn of Barnett, Mo. They joined CFI in 1998.

Contractor of the Month was Mike James, who lives in Kannapolis, N.C., and has been with CFI for more than three years. Contractor Team of the Month was Gary and Nora Bulen of Monkey Island, Okla. Gary came to CFI in 1991 and Nora joined in 1996.

2001 Drivers
Davis Transport Inc. of Missoula, Mont., recently honored its top 2001 drivers at an award banquet.

Four drivers were awarded Drivers of the Year for their respective fleets: Ron Reed of Clinton, Mont., Mervin Spracklin of Spokane, Wash., and Rod Archer of Melrose, Mont., for company drivers, and Steve Agee of San Bernardino, Calif., for owner-operators.

Honored for reaching a million miles were Monte Feldick of Watertown, S.D., Jeff Sackett of Corvallis, Ore., and Ray Lee of Oklahoma City.

Also honored were owner-operators David Mills of Pasco, Wash., and Ron Warner of Missoula, Mont., for 20 and 30 years of service, respectively.

Million-Mile Award
Transport Corporation of America recently presented Lawrence Powers of Columbus, Ohio, with his ATA Million-Mile Award for safe driving. Powers, a 40-year trucking veteran, has been a company driver for Transport America since October of 1987.

“We are so proud of Larry’s accomplishment,” said David Carter, vice president of risk management at Transport. “He is an excellent driver and a fine representative of the high caliber driver at Transport America.”

Powers was also given a leather jacket marking his 10th year of safe driving and a Million-Mile watch.

Casey Dubler

Cycle Winner
C.R. England driver Casey Dubler won a new Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle when his name was picked in the company’s Network Recruitment Program drawing. Any driver who had recruited another driver hired by C.R. England was eligible for the drawing.

December Driver
GEO Transportation named John Forsee, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., as its Driver of the Year for 2001. GEO also recently announced Clinton Beck of Boonville, Ind., as its Driver of the Month for December 2001.

Top Drivers
West Side Transport recently named Jerry Wreede as the 2001 Company Driver of the Year and Abner Carballo as 2001 Owner-Operator of the Year.

The November 2001 Company Driver of the Month was Claude Alfred and the December 2001 Company Driver of the Month was Thomas Jolly. The November 2001 Owner-Operator of the Month was Nick Martin and the December 2001 Owner-Operator of the Month was Ben Gilbert.

Driver IDs
KLLM Transport Services is in the process of issuing photo-identification cards to its 1,700 drivers. The actions are in response to the changing security needs for both shippers and carriers that resulted from the events of Sept. 11.

From Dec. 1, 2001, to date, more than 650 drivers received their identifications cards, which are being issued at the company’s terminals in Jackson, Miss., and Bastrop, La.

Load Team
ABF Freight System Inc. has announced its 2002 Load Team. They are Bob Clouser of Carlisle, Penn., Dennis Cooper of Albuquerque, N.M., John Futrell of Salt Lake City, Lee Richardson of Ellenwood, Ga., Ron Suerdieck of Dayton, Ohio, Jimmy Ward of Little Rock, Ark., Grant Watts of Winston-Salem, N.C., Dan Koehne of South Chicago, Ill., and Carl Locke of Dallas.

Load Team members are selected on the basis of their safety record and involvement in ABF’s quality process.

Profit Sharing
Crete Carriers announced it contributed more than $2 million to the company’s employee profit sharing plan in the fall of 2001. Crete and its driving and non-driving employees currently have more than $85 million invested in profit-sharing/401k plans.
