FedEx driver named Angel of Year

Kenny Cass PrintKenny Cass of Portland, Ore., and FedEx Freight has been named the Truckload Carrier Association’s Highway Angel of the Year for his efforts in rescuing two people after an accident happened in front of him between a pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer. (Click here to see Overdrive‘s story from July when Cass was originally named a TCA Highway Angel.)

TCA and Internet Truckstop will tell Cass’ story to an audience at the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl game, which will be held Dec. 15 at 2:30 p.m. MST at Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho. Cass will also be on hand at the game and honored in front of the 34,000 fans in attendance with a trophy saluting his actions.

Cass is served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 24 years before becoming a driver, and, says TCA’s chairman Robert Low, Cass “showed that his experience with the U.S. Coast Guard was used to keep calm and act quickly in this particularly stressful situation. I applaud the capable way he handled this event.”
