TCA awards scholarships

Twenty-five college students will receive scholarships from the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) Scholarship Fund for the 2013-14 academic year. The scholarships are broken down into amounts ranging from $2,725 to $6,250 from a total fund of about $75,000. Scholarships are awarded to students associated with the trucking industry.

“The people who work in the trucking industry already work hard – very hard. By underwriting some of the financial burden for these individuals, we are happy to be reducing stress for families who already sacrifice to move North America’s freight,” said Josh Kaburick, chairman of TCA’s Scholarship Fund and the COO of Earl L. Hederson Trucking Company.

Each scholarship recipient is entering or already a student in good standing at a four-year college or university and associated with a TCA member company as an employee or independent contractor or is the child, grandchild or spouse of an employee or independent contractor. Recipients show financial need and scholastic achievement, maintain full-time student status and demonstrate integrity.

This year, a scholarship was given in memory of Stoney “Reese” Stubbs, son of Russell and Dawn Stubbs of FFE Transportation Services, Inc. Stubbs died in June 2012 at age 20.

Applications for the 2014-15 scholarships are due in June 2014. For more details about TCA’s Scholarship Fund and this year’s winners, visit
