TeamCME nationwide network of Department of Transportation Medical Examiners has released a smartphone app (iOS and Android platforms) to enable easy search for a nearby doc. Additional features, the company says, allow drivers to save their medical examiner’s contact information and their expiration date in preparation for January 30, 2015, when (except for the first 15 days after their physical) they will no longer be required to carry their medical certificate when driving.

Searches can be made using the driver’s GPS location or by city and state and can include alcohol and drug testing locations as well. The company currently shows more than 400 medical examiners on its driver map.

Also available is a new “full-featured” paid version with “Expiration Alerts” to the driver’s email account prior to expiration of their medical certificate.  Drivers can also have a copy of the alert sent to their employer. The full version gives drivers access to a medical library of medical conditions, which shows how they affect driving status and includes tips on how to prepare for the next medical exam.

Motor carriers can subscribe to a management program that provides driver lists, expirations, and updates of their drivers’ medical certificates using the driver app as well.
