Truck drivers who plan to be traveling through Las Vegas on Wednesday evening, Oct. 25, should plan ahead for the overnight closure of a section of I-15. Additionally, truckers looking for parking along I-95 in Rhode Island and I-10 in Arizona should seek alternate options as two rest areas will be temporarily closed.
As part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s “Project Neon” construction project, crews will close I-15 Southbound from Washington Avenue to the “Spaghetti Bowl” interchange from 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, through 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26. The closure is for the installation of Active Traffic Management signs, which will be used during the 3.7-mile I-15 widening project from the U.S. 95 interchange to Sahara Avenue in Las Vegas.
Southbound motorists will be detoured onto Martin Luther King Boulevard and back onto I-15.
Additionally, in Arizona, the Sacaton Rest Area in I-10 south of Phoenix will be closed for approximately six months for a restoration project. Work is planned for both the westbound and eastbound locations. The Arizona Department of Transportation says the nearest traveler facilities during the closure are in the Phoenix and Casa Grande areas, and in the Gila River Indian Community.
Finally, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will temporarily close the weigh station turned truck rest area along I-95 South between exits 5 and 3 in Richmond.
During the closure, RIDOT says trucks can use the TA truck stop off of exit 5B, which offers 180 truck parking spaces. RIDOT Chief Public Affairs Officers Charles St. Martin said the closure is expected to last approximately a year.
The former weigh station will be used by a contracting company that is building the state’s trucks-only toll locations.
