Landstar System, Inc., presented the 2017 Landstar Safety Officer of the Year Award to independent Landstar Agent Rick Owens during the owner-operator-heavy fleet’s annual agent convention in Boca Raton, Fla., this month. Owens is president of Owens Leasing, Inc., based in Santa Fe, Texas, and was selected from among 12 Landstar Safety Officer (LSO) of the Month winners for 2017. The monthly winners represent agencies with very low accident and cargo loss frequency rates who continuously look for ways to improve safety.

Also at the agent meeting, Landstar named its 2017 M.U.S.T. Customer of the Year in the Fairlife, LLC, company. Landstar’s Mutual Understanding of Safety Together program involves an extensive tour of a customer’s facility, followed by discussion and analysis of best safety and securement practices.
Also recognized in association with the M.U.S.T. customer award was independent Landstar agent Michael Wauldron of Transporters USA, the agency that provides the customer with transportation logistics services.
In 2017, Wauldron and Landstar representatives met with Fairlife at three of the company’s facilities on nine M.U.S.T. customer visits. Together the group toured company processing plants, then discussed and implemented new loading and securement procedures for the company’s ultra-filtered milk.
