The BigRoad Freight platform has been around since introduction in 2017, aimed toward owner-operators utilizing BigRoad’s DashLink electronic logging device, among the more popular in Overdrive‘s audience of independents. As of a late-2018 survey, BigRoad was in use by 11% of one-truck independents. The company was the first ELD provider to directly bring hours information bear on the process of partially automating freight matching in an in-house platform built for customers. This week, the company says owner-operators utilizing the freight network have completed thousands of movements worth millions of dollars.

The platform, BigRoad says, continues to expand the freight sources utilizing the network to connect with truckers — it was initially rolled out with partnerships with brokers, load boards, and other freight platforms, bringing together loads in a simple package. The company is also on-boarding shippers directly into the platform as well, reps say.

This month, BigRoad Freight is expanding its initial program for owner-operators to fleets, enabling dispatchers to better manage load assignments and help drivers avoid deadhead miles.

“We experienced tremendous uptake of BigRoad Freight with owner-operators, and now we are scaling this innovative service to fleets,” said Tony Lourakis, CEO of Fleet Complete, the owner of BigRoad since acquisition in March of 2017.

Armed with data on driver preferences, hours of service (HOS), equipment type, and a multitude of other telematics-based data points, BigRoad Freight sends personalized notifications to owner-operators that list curated load opportunities to help reduce empty miles driven and generate additional revenue. The initial focus on BigRoad’s owner-op users, the company says, helped them fine-tune and perfect their platform, which synchronizes with the BigRoad ELD data to enable users to search shipments, post their trucks, and view a curated list of loads. This capability will now be available to dispatchers, helping find shipments fast and allocate loads to the drivers in their fleet. Pricing information will be visible to dispatchers in fleet mode.
