PrePass adds safety alerts for drivers to Motion app
PrePass Safety Alliance announced last week it has completed work on more than 1,000 new PrePass Alerts, allowing drivers to benefit from nearly 1,400 PrePass Alerts that appear in-cab on the PrePass Motion weigh station bypass app.
The alerts warn truck drivers of steep grades, gusty winds, runaway truck ramps, work zones, truck parking availability, rest areas, no commercial roads and brake check/chain-up areas. PrePass Safety Alliance offers the alerts as a free add-on to the PrePass Motion app, available on Android and iOS devices and in-cab telematics systems.
“This expansion of the Alerts system on PrePass Motion gives drivers very important information to keep them safe and on time as they travel down the road,” said Mark Doughty, president & CEO of PrePass Safety Alliance. “Working in collaboration with our state agency, enforcement and trucking industry partners, PrePass was the first bypass platform to offer these safety enhancements, and we expect more growth in the program soon.”
Bill Kerry, a 55-year trucking veteran, has been named the 2020 DMC Insurance Driver of the Year.55-year trucking vet wins insurance company’s driver of the year award
DMC Insurance announced this week that Bill Kerry, a truck driver for John Brown Trucking, is its 2020 Driver of the Year.
Kerry began his trucking career in 1965 and has been with John Brown Trucking since 1980. According to DMC, Kerry has driven the entirety of his career without an accident or moving violation.
More than 50 years of his 55-year career were spent driving over-the-road from the Pittsburgh area into the Carolinas, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and West Virginia. John Brown Trucking specializes in hauling alloy, scrap metal, construction materials and other industrial products.
At 73 years old, Kerry continues to haul these loads and just moved to local routes in Pennsylvania in Ohio in the last two years.
Kerry was nominated for the award by his terminal manager, Harry Frelin. “If I only owned one truck, Bill Kerry would be the first driver I would ask to drive it,” Frelin said.
ERoad adds truck-friendly routing with enhanced partnership
ERoad and HERE Technologies today announced an expanded partnership to bring new routing and navigation capabilities to the ERoad Go+ program, which operates in conjunction with a fleet’s transportation management system to mobilize dispatch and capture proof of delivery data digitally. The navigation tool will be able to import assigned stops from the driver workflow mobile app, providing both a route overview as well as turn-by-turn navigation. Routing is truck-friendly and accounts for truck dimensions, vehicle weight, number of trailers and etc. The tool also optimizes routes based on road attributes and conditions including truck restrictions, bridge heights, hazardous material restrictions and traffic.
The driver app features live turn-by-turn navigation with lane assist, and audible guidance on upcoming turns.
