Overdrive September CoverTune into Big Al Weekley’s Dipatch Me Home Radio streaming broadcast this week for an interview with Overdrive Managing Editor Lucinda Coulter about the magazine’s 50th anniversary special coverage and her place in it. A prime place it is. Coulter headed up our Overdrive Retro website for more than a year preceding the anniversary issue, out this month. Along the way she toured the magazine’s history along with that of the industry, collecting reflections from readers and exploring all manner of avenues toward fascinating histories.

As some of you will know, and as Big Al found out, those histories including not only those of longtime owner-operators but also the many enterprising models who graced the magazine’s covers in the 1970s. Tune in anytime through the week at http://dispatchmehomeradio.com.

Prior to his talk with Coulter on this edition of the Dispatch Me Home show, Big Al shares a tribute to the fallen on 9/11 recorded and still unreleased by the late King Records gospel recording artist Ferlin Husky shortly after the disaster. “I was at King Records’ office in Nashville” at the time of 9/11, Big Al says, and he ended up among the 100 DJs the label sent a copy of the track. The label and artist elected not to release it, given they didn’t want profits to come from the disaster. It’s a special song, with a touching message. Here’s hoping you find time to enjoy it.
