T-Quip, a small fleet specializing in heavy machinery and based in Londonderry, New Hampshire, showed out at the 2025 Gear Jammer Magazine Truck Show in Epping in their home state with a shiny 2023 Pete 589.
The truck's driver, Chris, hauls “excavators, loaders, rock trucks, crushers” up and down the East Coast. He described the custom touches and gave us a review of the relatively new 589.
The truck sports the original Paccar motor and 18-speed transmission. Though it's a 2023, it sat for some time before hitting the road.
“We had a Western Star and Western Star turned into Freightliner, so we went with the 589. It’s the new big thing," he said.
How does it drive? Like other 589 operators we've spoken to, Chris enjoyed the creature comforts.

“It’s got a lot to like," he said. "It’s comfortable, it’s quiet, it goes down the road good. It’s like driving a car now. The visibility is better."
Driver Chris said he likes the digital dash a lot, and easily flips through different displays, including marking his miles in different states for IFTA reasons.
The truck sports just a few custom touches, including a headache rack, a smaller hydraulic tank given he only pulls low boys, and custom fenders and lights all around the bottom of the cab and breathers. Of course, there's a new visor and hood ornament, too.

"There’s a company that does a split window now, DJ Customs, and it looks cool, but it’s expensive," said Chris. On the hood, there's a "bunny down there with a shotgun."
Rabbit season, anyone? Chris said T-Quip has a "history" of putting Looney Toons characters around the truck. "My last truck had Elmer Fudd on it. A couple other trucks have Sylvester."

He said the 58-inch low-roof sleeper was more comfortable than the one in his past Western Star, if a little bit smaller. Inside, the bed is a bit narrower than a twin, but he can stretch out and rest just fine.
“It's a pretty stock truck," he added. "You can have these fitted out any way you want from the factory”
