Michelin's new regional drive tire has fuel savings in mind

Michelin has introduced its new X Multi Energy D2 tire, engineered specifically regional haul operations.

Regional operations contend with demanding road conditions, frequent stop-and-start driving cycles, and this year's obviously rising fuel costs, all of which can significantly impact performance and profitability. Michelin noted it combined durability, fuel efficiency, and performance upgrades in the X Multi Energy D2 to maximize productivity while reducing cost of operation.

This tire offers an updated tread pattern and new tread compound designed to improve resistance to tread damage caused by high torque vehicles and stop-and-go driving of regional applications. Additionally, it is built on Michelin’s Duracore casing, which incorporates Infinicoil and Powercoil technologies and is enhanced with a reinforced bead design. The casing is designed for up to one million miles and up to four retreads.

To help fleets battle fuel costs, the new tire improved rolling resistance by 9% from its D predecessor. The new D2 also improved late-life traction performance with 10% better wet handling performance and 16% better snow starting traction when worn, the company said.

The tire is available today in 295/75R22.5 LRG and 11R22.5 LRG and LRH sizes replacing the X Multi Energy D tire in those sizes.
