High Valley’s custom military, aerospace hauler

Owner-operator Shane Becker of Ramona, Cailf., runs the West hauling military equipment, jet engines and oversized aerospace equipment with this 1999 Peterbilt 379.

The truck is powered by a 625-hp Caterpillar and a 10-speed transmission, and Becker’s loaded the truck with custom features. Becker has added a Jones Performance hood and fenders, a 20-inch Valley Chrome bumper with a flip kit, drop visor, 1,200-watt sound system, LED flat screen and more. Becker says he and his son Mikey did the bulk of the custom work. Becker’s High Valley Trucking will also turn 20 this year. “Something my family and I are very proud of,” he said.

The shaded area on the left shows negative margins, while the overall graph, put together by Ken Adamo with DAT data, shows a 13.45% margin for brokers. That's down about a couple percentag points down since last June in a sign of a tightening market.

Broker margins took a beating in June: DAT data

Brokers got walloped in rate negotiations in June, records show, with broker margin dipping overall and some indication that contract rates could shoot up as well, according to data from DAT and Ken Adamo.

Oberman Logistics owner Wes Oberman's personal truck is this Kenworth T680 -- purchased to replace a lower-fuel-mileage 2020 389 that powered his maiden voyage in trucking as an owner-operator. He's getting 10 mpg now, and providing a reliable home for leased owners. As of July 2026, the fleet's up to 14 trucks and set up for further growth.
