Dillon Howton performs hydro excavation work with this 2015 Western Star 4900SB, equipped with a Tornado F4 hydrovac. The truck boasts a Detroit DD16 with an 18-speed Eaton. Howton said hydro excavation is a soil removal service that, instead of mechanical tools, uses pressurized water to create a dirt slurry. Hydrovac equipment like Howton's is then used to vacuum the slurry to expose deeper layers of the ground below and find utilities, such as high-pressure gas, water, high-voltage electrical and more.
