Indiana-based Paul Caudill, owner of Caudill Services, does a little bit of everything trucking around his home base, hauling grain and feed, equipment, pool water -- whatever is needed at the time.
One of his three power units is the 1985 Kenworth W900B, nicknamed “Patches,” pictured up top. Powered by a 525-hp Cummins N14 Celect+ with an 18-speed, the truck does some "hit and miss" OTR work pulling a 40-foot Mac end dump when rates make it worth it, Caudill said.
Two other trucks in Caudill’s fleet run local mostly, hauling grain and feed products. Caudill and his wife have been self-employed for 22 years with both trucking and excavation businesses. His trucks might be seen “hooked to a dump trailer today and an RGN or tanker the next hauling pool water,” he said. “In a small community, we have to stay flexible and [roll] with whatever comes our way sometimes.”
All told, he keeps a tanker trailer for hauling water in addition to four others -- a walking floor, hopper, end dump and RGN -- to maintain that flexibility.
