Just two weeks after being appointed by President Donald Trump as the Acting Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Adrienne Camire has left the role.
FMCSA's leadership page now shows Sue Lawless at the top as Executive Director and Chief Safety Officer, with Jesse Elison, Chief Counsel, listed below her. Previously, the page had shown Camire up top with Lawless below.
It's unclear why Camire left the role, but just three days prior she visited the "Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) Transportation Training Center in Baltimore," according to a post from FMCSA on Facebook, "to engage with students in the CDL training program, meet college officials and instructors, and gain some behind-the-wheel experience on the closed training course."
The post included shots of Camire driving a truck and meeting students and other officials.
Before her stint at FMCSA, Camire previously served as Chief Counsel for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) during President Trump’s first term, where she oversaw all legal services related to FHWA’s management of the federal-aid highway program. Camire has more than 20 years of legal, regulatory and compliance experience within the private and academic sectors.

As previously reported, acting administrators at FMCSA are not uncommon. Just two full-time administrators have presided over the agency since the end of President Obama's second term -- Raymond Martinez and Robin Hutcheson. Since Hutcheson's tenure, there have been three acting administrators -- Sue Lawless, Vinn White, and most recently Camire.
Previously, Overdrive reported on owner-operator Lee Schmitt's efforts to lead the agency.
