Bill in Congress would allow drivers to pause 14-hour clock for up to three hours
A bill filed in the U.S. House Thursday by Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) would allow drivers to take one break per day â of up to three hours â that does not count against their 14-hour on-duty allotment. The bill mirrors a petition filed by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association last month, calling for a pause button for driversâ daily 14-hour clock of up to three hours and the removal of the mandatory 30-minute break required by current hours regs.

FMCSA: âConclusiveâ that no driver info was compromised in registry outage
FMCSA has confirmed to Overdrive that no personal information on drivers was exposed in a recent attempt by an unauthorized party to access the agencyâs National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. The registry, which is used by drivers to find DOT-certified medical examiners, has now been down for nearly 4 months.

Congress passes spending bill exempting livestock haulers from ELDs until October
Both chambers of Congress on Thursday passed a $1.3 trillion spending bill that allows livestock haulers to run without electronic logging devices through the end of September. The bill has now been sent to the White House for President Trumpâs signature, who has threatened to veto the bill.

Potentially more than 2,000 truckers will have to renew their medical card within 30 days after the indictment of an Alabama-based medical examiner accused of issuing false medical cards. Affected drivers will be notified via mail by the U.S. DOT.

The U.S. House late Wednesday released the text of a $1.3 billion spending bill that funds the U.S. government through the end of the 2018 fiscal year and, notably for trucking, exempts livestock and insect haulers from the electronic logging device mandate through the end of September.

FMCSA shuts down driver after myriad of violations uncovered at roadside
On two separate stops days apart, driver Jerry Jasper was found to be driving with a suspended CDL and in violation of multiple hours regs. Officers also found drug paraphernalia in one stop and arrested Jasper. FMCSA has issued Jasper an effective shutdown order.
