Fleets running PeopleNet ELDs could see brief expansion of ELD grandfather clause
The waiver request, filed by Old Dominion on behalf of all carriers running PeopleNet systems, stems from technical issues in updates to PeopleNet’s e-logging software. While PeopleNet’s hardware is compliant with the mandate, Old Dominion says PeopleNet’s December 2017 software update, intended to bring its AOBRD software up to an ELD-compliant spec, did not integrate with PeopleNet’s fleet management software.

Examiners fear bogus driver med cards could stem from FMCSA hack
FMCSA said earlier this month “there appears to be no evidence” of drivers’ or examiners’ information being stolen. But if any information regarding examiners was stolen, specifically their license number, there could be potential for bogus medical certificates to be issued, according to interviews with several DOT-certified medical examiners.

Overdrive has queried FMCSA repeatedly in the past week about the site’s outage. The agency has not answered questions about whether the site’s outage has disrupted the issuance of medical certificates and whether it can fully confirm that no private information about drivers’ medical records was stolen.

Truck renting group seeks ELD exemption for all of 2018
The Truck Renting and Leasing Association has been granted a 90-day exemption through April 19 from the ELD mandate. It has also announced it has filed a petition for an exemption to last through the end of the year.
