A few prominent trucking policy reforms could be on tap in Congress in the coming weeks and months as lawmakers return to Washington from their annual August recess. Most prominently, lawmakers could take up a bill â or a rider to a must-pass spending bill â to delay the compliance date of the looming electronic logging device mandate.

OOIDA petitions FMCSA to withhold federal funding from 20 states for enforcement, including ELDs
The petition singles out 26 states that havenât as yet adopted the ELD mandate, while 20 of those are out of compliance with fed regs adoption rules in general, OOIDA says. The MCSAP program granted more than $65 million in funding to those 20 states last year.

Inspectors and roadside officers will begin documenting ELD violations on the Dec. 18 deadline, and citations will be issued to drivers âat the jurisdictionâs discretion,â CVSA says. The 10-hour out-of-service order associated with non-compliance will begin April 1, 2018.
