Is it necessary for an ELD to āsupportā intrastate hours rules?
The short answer: As a matter of regulation, no. The electronic logging device mandate is written in a manner that is more or less agnostic to the hours of service rule a particular driver is operating under. Nonetheless, say ELD providers, rule-set support can be helpful.

In addition to establishing a core curriculum required to be taught to CDL applicants and driver trainees, the rule institutes two other key changes: Required behind-the-wheel training and a registry of FMCSA-approved driver trainers from which CDL applicants must receive training.

The agencyās split sleeper berth pilot program seeks to determine the effects split sleeper berth options, such as splits of 5-5, 6-4 and 7-3, would have on drivers. The studyās outcome could dictate whether FMCSA decides to pursue reforms to hours of service regulations.

FMCSA officially nixes rule on increasing minimum liability insurance required for carriers
Ultimately, the agency says it received too little feedback, particularly from insurance companies, to proceed with a rulemaking. FMCSA sought to quantify whether the current $750,000 minimum, set in 1985, was too low to cover modern liability claims.
