Bottom line for lawmakers sent by us to the nationās capitol: We need an infrastructure bill that will open the flow of traffic, make safer merge lanes and truly spur on badly needed truck parking. Please donāt wait for another bridge to collapse, for another trucker trying to provide for his family to be killed for the few dollars in his pocket.

Trucker arrested after armed standoff with police along I-10 in Mississippi
As of 2 p.m. Central, the Mississippi Highway Patrol reports the truck driver involved in the standoff with police has been safely taken into custody. I-10 was reopened in both directions as of 2:45 p.m. Central Wednesday.

Minnesota raises speed limits to 60 on over 5,000 miles of highways
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will increase speeds on 5,240 miles of highway based on the results of a five-year study completed last week. The increases are effective as soon as new signs are posted. Many signs are already up, and the rest are expected to be in place by spring.

I-59/20 closure in downtown Birmingham to begin Jan. 21
Crews will close the bridges on Monday, Jan. 21, in order to demolish the existing bridges and build new ones. While the project is expected to keep the bridges closed for 14 months, the contractor has monetary incentives to finish early, ALDOT says.

Lane restrictions, closures planned for interstates in Arizona, New York
Overnight lane restrictions are planned for I-17 in Phoenix on Thursday and Friday night, while overnight lane restrictions are planned for I-10 in Tucson between Saturday, Jan. 12, and Saturday, Jan. 19. The New York State Thruway will also briefly close Saturday morning at the Tappan Zee Bridge.
