Truckers using phone-based ELDs can change duty status away from truck, FMCSA says
FMCSA will, at least for five years, allow drivers using mobile device-based ELDs (those run on a phone or tablet) to change duty status outside of and away from their vehicle. Such changes in duty status will need to be annotated, the agency says.

Supreme Court rejects ELD appeal, ending OOIDA’s challenge options
In a win for FMCSA, the Supreme Court has declined to take up OOIDA’s challenge, leaving in place a lower court decision that upholds the rule and its Dec. 18 compliance date. OOIDA says it will continue its ELD challenge via Congress and the White House.

OOIDA takes ELD case to the Supreme Court
OOIDA, whose legal team is representing independent truckers Richard Pingel and Mark Elrod in the case, has asked the nation’s high court to reevaluate a lower court ruling issued in October that upheld the U.S. DOT’s rule to require truckers to use logging devices to track hours of service.
