Used Class 8 registrations fall

Last year 1.25 million new and used Class 3-8 commercial vehicles were registered, according to Polk.

Used commercial vehicle registrations topped 791,200 units, 17.8 percent more than the previous record of 671,887 units registered in 2010. Class 8 vehicle registrations, however, declined last year from the previous year, Polk said.

“Good quality used commercial vehicles continue to be in high demand, as shown by the record level of used vehicle transactions reported during each of the first three quarters 2011,” said Gary Meteer, account director for commercial vehicle solutions at Polk. “However, our analysis of fourth quarter 2011 activity shows evidence of a shortage of good clean equipment.”

Fourth-quarter used registrations were down 4.1 percent from the comparable quarter in 2010. Furthermore, used Class 8 registrations during the fourth quarter of 2011 were down 22 percent from a year earlier.
