Blaise Verdino’s family heirloom is an 18-wheeler
How did you get into trucking? My dad is a trucker and has been trucking for almost 50 years — so I grew up with a love of trucks. He told me a lot of stories about the road — a lot of them I can’t repeat. What does it take to be successful in […]

What’s your best advice for choosing loads?
“Part of watching our expenses is watching what we are hauling. We can pull an empty shipping container, and it’s like pulling a parachute, but we can put a heavy object on the trailer, like building supplies, and we get better mileage because it works better with the flatbed.”

Roundup: I-5 bridge collapse weighing heavy, operators flying the flag
Many of the same issues are in the political foreground today around highway regulation and funding as were being debated in 2007 when the Minneapolis I-35W bridge fell, with sometimes overheated rhetoric.

Many of the same issues are in the political foreground today around highway regulation and funding — the use of tolls v. fuel taxes, whether to increase or otherwise further limit truck weight — as in 2007 when the Minneapolis I-35W collapse led a discussion of funding issues I wrote for Truckers News.

Hours restart looming July 1
Could the July 1 hours changes be much ado about nothing? Many Overdrive readers say so — but for some drivers with little control over weekly scheduling routinely maximizing driving hours, the change may bust the bottom line.
May 19, 2013
In recent polling on the hours change, drivers were clearly worried about new limits on the 34-hour restart, a provision originally codified during the 2003 changes to drivers’ hours of service. Todd McCann, writing on his AboutTruckDriving.com blog in April, detailed the recent examples of three successive weekends, two of whose outcomes would not have been possible under the new restart restrictions.

A sort of mild-nightmare scenario at a receiver for Prime driver Bob Sauter leads to larger thoughts on the terrible treatment many drivers see from shipping/receiving facility personnel.
