Won’t you stay a spell

You know how it is when you move to a new town. Meeting new neighbors. Learning how to find the nearest grocery store. Getting used to a culture that’s hard to define but different from your old stomping grounds.

I know those of you who are former readers of Owner Operator face similar adjustments as you read Overdrive, now that we have incorporated Owner Operator. I’ll be surprised, though, if you don’t like what you read once you get your bearings – lots of business and technical information to help you run your business, as well as industry news, lifestyle stories and feedback from our most important sources, our readers. Throughout the year we bring special sponsored sections, such as this issue’s “Surviving the Times,” to help you improve your operation.

You’ll also find quality and dedication. Continuing Overdrive‘s recent string of editorial honors, The American Society of Business Publication Editors gave Overdrive five regional awards, including two Golds, for stories and design. (We’re also proud that sister publications Truckers News won two awards and Trucking Co., now merged with Commercial Carrier Journal, won four.)

As for dedication, Overdrive editors Max Heine and Carolyn Magner were among five Randall Trucking Media editors who recently earned their commercial driver’s licenses. Eight Randall editors have now traded their four-wheeler cards for the license to pilot a tractor-trailer – the most of any trucking publisher.

The time our editors spent in CDL training is one more sign of the commitment we bring to ensuring that our staff makes these pages as useful as possible for busy entrepreneurs like you. Whether you’re an old-timer in the neighborhood or a newcomer, I hope you feel well-informed – and welcome.
