Pegasus team drivers named Highway Angels

Pegasus Transportation team drivers David Murray and Rick Wiltsey have been named Truckload Carriers Association Highway Angels for assisting after a fatal accident.

On Aug. 2, the team was on I-10 in Arizona when they came upon a tractor-trailer that had crossed the median and was blocking the eastbound lanes of the highway. Just after Wiltsey stopped near the overturned trailer, a pick-up truck passed and crashed into the trailer.

In the front seat of the pick-up, Murray and Wiltsey found a man and a 2-year old girl who appeared to be dead. Murray and Wiltsey helped three children get out of the back seat of the pick-up, and Wiltsey stayed with them until another motorist stopped to help.

Meanwhile, a woman in the front seat was alive, but pinned by the wreckage. “Her foot was jammed, and she was trapped,” Murray said. Eventually, authorities were able to cut her out of the pick-up, and both drivers assisted with loading the woman and one of the children onto a medical transport helicopter.

Murray and Wiltsey have been presented with Highway Angel lapel pins, certificates, and patches. Pegasus Transportation also received a certificate acknowledging that two of its drivers are Highway Angels.
