Auctioned Ground Zero Macks Benefit USO

Each of the six vehicles – one CL700 with a Warren demo body and five Granites with Ox demo bodies – carries a commemorative emblem to recognize six months of service at Ground Zero.

New York City recently returned six Mack trucks, which were loaned free of charge by Mack for use in cleanup efforts at the World Trade Center site. “When the trucks finished their service and were returned to us, we saw an opportunity to help the USO in serving those who are protecting and defending our freedoms,” said Mack president and CEO Paul Vikner.

The company auctioned off the vehicles to several Mack dealers, who paid well above market value for them. After reclaiming the value of the trucks, Mack donated the extra money – $150,000 – to the USO.

USO president and CEO, Edward A. Powell, represented his organization at the auction, and praised the generosity of the company and its dealers for their participation. “This exceptional donation will help the USO expand its efforts to serve military members and their families around the world,” he said.
