Trucker GM Paterson Releases First CD

Canadian trucker GM Paterson has parlayed his love of trucking, singing and songwriting into a debut CD titled Overdrive.

The 13-song collection features all original works from the Sadbury, Ontario, native.
Paterson, a 10-year trucking veteran with more than a million accident-free miles, says about half the songs on the CD are trucking-relating, including “Georgia Overdrive.”

“I’ve written over 100 songs, and I’ve probably written 90 percent of them going down the road,” he says.

Another song, “Hell Came Down,” reflects on the Sept. 11 tragedy.

Paterson describes the bulk of his music as “country with a rock edge.” He draws on the influences of his mother’s idol, Elvis Presley, along with Tim McGraw, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Paterson, who performed last year at Overdrive magazine’s Pride and Polish truck beauty show at the Great American Trucking Show, has opened for country stars Brooks & Dunn and Michelle Wright.

Paterson is the official driver spokesman for IdleAire, a provider of in-cab utilities for tractors parked at truckstops. He expects a second album to be released by the end of the year. For more information, visit www.gmpaterson.com.
