Mack announces new 405-hp MP7 engine

Mack MP7Mack Trucks announced Sept. 8 the new Mack MP7 405 Super Econodyne engine, available with up to 405 hp and 1,560 lb.-ft. of torque.

The engine is designed to be part of the truck maker’s Mack Pedigree Powertrain, which includes the MP7 engine, the Mack mDrive transmission, proprietary axles and a custom software package, Mack says.

The company says it can boost fuel economy by 4 percent, compared to the standard MP7 and automated-manual transmission.

The engine is now available for order, Mack says, and is available for the Mack Pinnacle. The engine is best suited for regional or bulk haul applications, Mack says. The engine is compliant with 2014 greenhouse gas regulations.
