The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is holding its 10th annual Truckers for Troops care package campaign next week, Nov. 13-17.
Truckers for Troops raises money to pack and send care packages to military members stationed in combat zones. The program will also help veteran’s facilities on the home front, including those assisting or housing wounded, disabled or homeless service members.
During Truckers for Troops week, truckers can join OOIDA or renew their memberships for $35, with 10 percent of that going toward care packages. OOIDA will match the 10 percent dollar-for-dollar. Any new or renewal memberships collected through the start of business Monday, Nov. 20, will go toward the campaign.
OOIDA is also seeking addresses for sending care packages and is accepting personal cards or letters to include in the packages. The name and complete address can be sent to [email protected]. Be sure to include projected stateside return dates.
Cards and letters can be sent to P.O. Box 1000, Grain Valley, MO 64029, Attention: Truckers for Troops. Towns or school names can be included, but do not include last names or other personal information. Packages go out after the holidays in January or February 2018, so Christmas or holiday cards aren’t necessary.
Since the program launched in 2007, it has raised more than $500,000, which has allowed care packages to be sent to nearly 36,000 military personnel.
