“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
According to the organizers behind the Expedite Expo show, set to kick off July 20-21 at the Lexington Center in downtown Lexington, Ky., the above Ben Franklin quote captures the show’s essence. The two-day, time-only investment at the Expo (it’s otherwise free for owner-ops, drivers and fleet owners) will pay dividends in terms of “expanding your industry knowledge and network to help you grow your business,” organizers say.
Launched in 2001, Expedite Expo is geared exclusively to owner-operator-heavy expedited trucking. Today, the Expo has grown to attract attendees across North America, where they come to learn about the newest trucks, related products and career and business opportunities.
And not only is registration free, so is truck parking.
Educational workshops there are tailored to owner-ops and small fleet owners’ role on the expedite journey and led by industry experts and peers who know how to succeed in the business. Workshops are scheduled for the morning each day—from 8a.m. to 11a.m. Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, before the show floor opens. Topics include:
- How to Prepare Your Finances to Buy a New Truck
- Practical Solutions to Improve Your Business
- Fleet Ownership: Getting started
- Tips from Successful Van Drivers
- So you want to be an owner-operator …
- Behind the Scenes with Successful Team Drivers
- How to Outfit Your Van
- Fleet Ownership: A Guide to a Rewarding Future
- How to Find Success in Trucking
- Straight Talk from Recruiters on Getting into the Industry
- Women in Trucking
In addition to workshops and informal networking at the various events at the Expo, attendees can also sign up on-site for more structured networking “roundtables,” where you sit with peers and discuss topics that will help you to be more successful.
Program organizers also will name the next Expediter of Year at the show. The award program is designed to recognize hard-working, professional and safety-conscious expediters on the road today who strive to make the expedite industry better and are deeply involved in serving and making a positive impact on their community.
Last year’s honoree was Robert Burton, an owner-operator leased to V3 Transportation, who was nominated for the award by his wife and co-owner Christy. Burton’s honor marked the first annual year for the program.
Interested owner-operators can register to attend and find more information via the Expedite Expo website.
