Trucking news and briefs for Friday, Sept. 20, 2019:

St. Christopher offering free flu vaccine program
Flu season is right around the corner and the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund is once again helping drivers stay healthy with free flu vaccine vouchers.

Truckers that have a current Class A CDL are eligible to receive free flu, shingles and pneumonia vaccines courtesy of SCF. The voucher must be printed from the SCF site and presented at participating locations along with the driver’s CDL. The vouchers are accepted at Kroger, The Little Clinic, Walgreens or The Medicine Shoppe.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone six months of age and older. Individuals age 65 and above are considered to be at high risk for flu complications if they develop the flu. The CDC advises individuals to get their flu vaccine by the end of October.

I-10 in Texas, Louisiana, I-29 in Iowa closed due to flooding
I-10 in Texas between Beaumont and Winnie is closed due to flooding from Tropical Depression Imelda, which dumped more than four feet of rain on the region this week, according to AccuWeather reports. I-10 Westbound is also closed in Louisiana from exit 4 to the Louisiana/Texas state line.

In addition to intermittent lane closures of I-29 in Iowa reported Thursday, a 10-mile stretch of the interstate is completely closed due to flooding. The interstate is shut down in both directions between exit 61 and exit 71.

I-10 to close this weekend near Phoenix
The Arizona Department of Transportation will close I-10 Eastbound west of downtown Phoenix this weekend for a construction project. The interstate will be closed between 67th and 43rd avenues from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, through 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. Additionally, on-ramps to eastbound I-10 will be closed at 91st, 83rd, 79th, 75th and 51st avenues, as well the eastbound off-ramp at 43rd Avenue.

ADOT suggests drivers traveling east through Phoenix take State Route 85 south from Buckeye to Gila Bend, then travel east on I-8 to reconnect with I-10 in Casa Grande.
