Not all truck drivers will be able to make it home to their families and friends for Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal while on the road.
A number of truck stops are offering free Thanksgiving meals to drivers, and Meals for 18 Wheels will once again be bringing meals to drivers.
Among truck stops feeding truckers for free for Thanksgiving are:
- Boise Stage Stop, off I-84 at exit 71 (23801 S. Orchard Access Rd. Boise, Idaho 83716), holds its 13th annual Driver Appreciation Day. Just show a valid CDL to receive a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
- The Greater Chicago I-55 Truck Plaza will offer a free turkey dinner to customers with a valid CDL from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The I-55 Truck Plaza is located at 510 South Bolingbrook Drive in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
- The Cowboy Cafe in Lyman, Wyoming, is serving a free Thanksgiving dinner to truckers Wednesday, Nov. 27. The cafe is located at Exit 41 off I-80. The cafe is closed on Thanksgiving.
Meals for 18 Wheels is also currently gathering names of truck drivers to deliver Thanksgiving meals to on Nov. 27, 28 or 29. The group delivers meals to truckers in need throughout the year and makes a seasonal effort every Thanksgiving to make sure that no trucker in need of a holiday meal goes without one.
Drivers can sign up to receive a meal on the group’s Facebook page by commenting on this post with the location they will be on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
Drivers whose travels will take them through Joplin, Missouri, on Thanksgiving night can stop in at 4 State Trucks for a free Thanksgiving meal, sponsored by Asphalt Cowboy Mafia. The meal will be offered from 7-9 p.m.
