Barker, whoâs leases his 2010 Peterbilt 386 to Heniff Transport, played the Zane Williams song âWhile I Was Away,â about a father who stays gone from home returns to see his son more grown than than when he left. Since introduction in 2016, the Carrier Advantage program for first access to freight has updated its internal metrics â on which participating carriersâ scores in it are based â on a quarterly basis. In the new year, that scoring will move to being available and updated on a near-real-time basis.

Steven Root, senior manager of loyalty marketing for PFJ, said at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas Friday that each day in September, drivers will receive an offer for a free drink each day. Some days will be coffee, others could be soda or water, but each day drivers can get a free beverage at the truck stops.

Rates sunk lower last week, but improved demand could bode well for this week
Van freight volumes have been stable for nearly all of 2019 but so has capacity. Rates have drifted lower, also for reefers, but if seasonal trends hold, they should pick up again in late September and October as contract carriers enter their busy season and soak up some of that excess capacity.
