Mooresville, N.C.-based hauler Scott Durant deserves recognition for some quick action on the road in Hudson, Ohio, a few weeks back after an accident that saw two cars flip over onto their roofs, the Hudson Hub-Times reported. Wrote reporter Tim Troglen in a story you can read in full via this link

“Upon arrival at the crash scene, troopers saw a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander and a 2001 Ford Taurus overturned in the north side of the roadway near the state Route 8 interchange,” according to the highway patrol.

“The Mitsubishi apparently drove off the right side of the road to avoid being hit by the Taurus,” according to a press release from OSP. “The vehicles collided in the center lane and struck the concrete barrier in the center of the highway, overturning and coming to rest on their roofs on the inside berm.”

The driver of the Mitsubishi perished in the accident, tragically.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of the Ohio Turnpike, while Durant, headed westbound, saw “smoking coming from the cars,” Troglen wrote, and parked his rig, jumped to the eastbound side of the freeway and helped the occupants of the Taurus get out of their overturned vehicle.

It’s all a stark reminder of what can happen out there on the road. As Durant summed up the incident to Troglen: “Let’s hope, if I’m ever in that situation, someone will take the time and effort to help me.”

And it’s not something he’ll soon forget. The whole affair lives on in memory as “something special to me,” he says.
