Freedom 250 Peterbilt 589: Get up close with a rarity

Updated Aug 14, 2026

Overdrive sister publication CCJ's Chief Editor Jason Cannon got an up-close look at one of 250 units in Peterbilt's recently announced Freedom 250 limited edition run of the Pete 589

In the video up top, Cannon runs through the special edition unit debuted in late May as a celebration of America's 250th birthday.

With only 250 units available for order, it's probably the rarest-of-rare Petes to be produced this year, combining a striking patriotic design with Pete performance for a bold statement of trucking pride.

Unique exterior details include a stars-and-stripes sleeper badge available on 58-, 72- and 80-inch sleepers; a stamped exhaust guard; Texas square bumper; and an exclusive three-color paint scheme featuring Freedom Red and Freedom Blue metallic.

Drivers are surrounded by premium comfort inside with a choice of sandstone or alpine gray platinum trim levels, and it's available for order through the end of the year via Peterbilt dealerships only. Find more detail via our coverage of the unit at announcement, and in the video.
