PA Turnpike installing truck parking technology at 10 service areas

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission said it will close entrances and exits at 10 service areas for a maximum of 60 minutes between 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. th rest of this week. The commission said the closures are necessary so crews can install traffic detection sensors for a truck parking management system.

During the 60-minute closures, the service plaza entry ramps will be closed to all traffic. Motorists will not be able to enter the service plazas and should seek alternate options for fuel, food, and restrooms.

The commission said the truck parking management system is being developed to combat a statewide and national shortage of truck parking availability. The system will provide near, real-time truck parking availability data to truck drivers via digital message signs along the turnpike. This data will also be available to drivers through other travel apps and third-party truck parking information systems.

The following service plaza ramps will be closed for a maximum of 60 minutes between 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m. on these days:

Hickory Run Service Plaza (I-476 northbound and southbound at milepost 86.1) Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5.

Allentown Service Plaza (I-476 northbound and southbound at milepost 55.9) Sunday, June 6 and Monday, June 7. 

King of Prussia Service Plaza (I-276 westbound at milepost 328.4) Tuesday, June 8.

Valley Forge Service Plaza (I-76 eastbound at milepost 324.6) Wednesday, June 9.

Peter J. Camiel Service Plaza (I-76 westbound at milepost 304.8) Thursday, June 10.

Bowmansville Service Plaza (I-76 eastbound at milepost 289.9) Friday, June 11.

Lawn Service Plaza (I-76 westbound at milepost 258.8)Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13.

Highspire Service Plaza (I-76 eastbound at milepost 249.7) Monday, June 14.

Blue Mountain Service Plaza (I-76 westbound at milepost 202.6) Tuesday, June 15.

Sideling Hill Service Plaza (I-76 westbound and eastbound at milepost 172.3) Wednesday, June 16 and Thursday, June 17.

Changeable message signs will also provide information on these closures. Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly. Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
