It’s a fitting No. 1 in Overdrive’s countdown, presenting as it does something of a lament from afar that, well, the speaker will be home for Christmas at least in spirit — “if only in my dreams,” a situation all too common for long-haul drivers.

First recorded by Bing Crosby during World War II — when it for certain resonated with soldiers deployed overseas as it does today — and subsequently by the likes of Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and many others, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” effectively evokes the melancholy of time gone by as well as the joy of having someone back home to share it with.

Crosby’s version you can hear via the vid below, and tell us, drivers, are you home for Christmas this year? Whether you are or not, here’s a big Merry Christmas from all of us here at Overdrive.
