A big congrats here from me personally to the winner of the Trucker Talent Search last week at the Great American Trucking Show — Heniff Transportation-leased owner-operator Taylor Barker, from Kingsport, Tenn. Also: his fellow competition finalists, two fellow tanker yankers and songwriters in the neighboring states of Mississippi and Alabama, “Mississippi Ken” Freeman (who hauls as a company driver for Transport Service) and Jemison, Ala.-based Jason Henley, hauling for Indigo Fluids.

Barker just after learning he’d won and greeting Tony Justice onstage. His winning performance was of a Zane Williams song called “While I was away.”Barker just after learning he’d won and greeting Tony Justice onstage. His winning performance was of a Zane Williams song called “While I was away.”

Take a listen:

Thirdly, in the podcast near the top…

You’ll hear a brief talk with Pennsylvania-based owner-operator Mike Landis, also of the United States Transportation Alliance, about his view of the FMCSA’s hours of service proposal, also then a bit of clarification of how the rule views computation of the split-sleeper options it’s proposing. You can also read more about those proposed split options via this link to Wednesday reporting.
