Group seeks ELD compliance waiver on short-term rental trucks through end of year
TRALA says its 90-day waiver isnât sufficient to address the ELD issues that have arisen with short-term rentals. The group says when fleets rent trucks to meet short-term demands, the ELD platform a fleet uses is often times different from the ELD platform in a rental truck.

OOIDA wants court to rehear case over sleep apnea guidelines for truckers
Following a courtâs dismissal of the case in January, OOIDA has filed a motion for the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear its argument that FMCSA illegally altered sleep apnea screening guidelines for truck drivers. FMCSA refutes OOIDAâs assertions, and the court sided with FMCSA in January.

Martinez takes the helm at FMCSA
Raymond P. Martinez, the new administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, has officially assumed the role as boss of the U.S. DOTâs trucking and bus regulatory agency, FMCSA announced late Wednesday. Martinez was selected last fall by President Trump to head FMCSA. He was confirmed by the Senate in February.

Oakley Trucking adds CSA score-based per-mile pay increase
The North Little Rock, Ark.-based dry bulk hauler will pay all new lease owner-operators an additional 10 cents-per-mile on both loaded and empty miles on top of their base pay. Drivers can keep that top bonus by not having points added to their CSA scores while leased to the company.

Search returns to certified medical examiner site; FMCSA mum on hack details
Truckers can now search the DOTâs online registry for certified examiners by zip code, says the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, but the full registry remains offline three months after a hack prompted its outage.

Alabama chiropractor arrested for falsifying driver med certs
According to the indictment, Edwards and his staff âorchestrated a scheme to submit false documentsâ to the USDOT. The indictment alleges Edwards and his staff didnât perform proper DOT physicals and sent forms to the DOT that falsely certified that truckers had passed the DOT physical exam requirements.

FMCSA grants waiver to help hurricane-displaced Puerto Ricans obtain CDLs
FMCSA has issued a 90-day waiver from proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence and domicile requirements for Puerto Rican citizens relocating to the U.S. in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria. The agency is also seeking comments on a longer exemption with the same terms.

Use DataQs to contest 395.8(a) violations written for not having an ELD prior to April 1
If you incurred a 395.8(a) prior to April 1 simply for not having an ELD record and you were keeping paper logs, challenge it through the FMCSA DataQs process to remove it from carrier records.
