FMCSA denies request to exempt small carriers from ELD mandate
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has denied a request from the Small Business in Transportation Coalition that sought to exempt trucking companies with 50 or fewer employees from the electronic logging device mandate.

Fireworks haulers seek hours relief during Independence Day holiday period
The American Pyrotechnics Association has submitted a petition to add four new members to its existing hours exemption during the Independence Day holiday period. A separate fireworks hauler, Extreme Logistics, has also requested an HOS exemption for its 12 drivers during the same holiday period.

Fireworks haulers get ELD waiver for Independence Day period
In its decision to grant the exemption, FMCSA says the 11-day exemption would not negatively impact safety. The agency also says it conducted “a comprehensive investigation of the safety performance history” of the 53 companies the exemption would cover.
