(Indianapolis Fire Department photo)A Missouri-based truck driver has been effectively shut down by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration after a crash in July that left three dead and seven injured.
According to FMCSA, trucker Bruce Andrew Pollard was driving a tractor-trailer in a work zone along I-465 eastbound in Indianapolis on July 14 when his truck, traveling faster than the posted speed limit, collided into a line of vehicles. Two young children and their mother were killed, and seven others were hospitalized.
Following the crash, Indiana State Police arrested and charged Pollard with three counts of reckless homicide and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle in a highway work zone.
Further investigation by FMCSA found that Pollard had a history of careless driving and had been disciplined and later fired in April 2019 by his previous employer for repeated instances of unsafe driving.
FMCSA says when applying for his latest driving position in June, Pollard did not disclose his employment with the previous carrier, failed to disclose his termination and the reason for it. He also falsely certified on his job application that he had not previously been involved in a crash, the agency adds.
