Depending on the type of tanker needed for what you're hauling, with all manner of regulated specialties therein, a cost of $65K or much more for the trailer no doubt makes the often-better rates and, sometimes, income than in general freight understandable.
For tanker owner-operators, those costs are higher, too, of course, also sometimes requiring extra credentialing for hazmat work, though most leased owners don't bring their own trailers to a leasing fleet's operation.
