AVERITT EXPRESS DRIVERS COMPETE

Averitt Express recently held its companywide 2002 Driving and Tow Motor Championship at its Cookeville, Tenn., service center. The Grand Champion was Brent Hawks, who is based in Asheville, N.C. Second place went to Jerry Butts of Greenville, N.C., and third place was awarded to George Holland from Charlotte, N.C. The competition included a personal interview, a pre-trip inspection and a driving skills test.


ANTI-DRUG DRIVE

For the 12th consecutive year, Con-Way Transportation Services sent thousands of employees to schools across the nation to present anti-drug messages. They distributed more than 700,000 red ribbons and other campaign materials, much of it delivered in Con-Way tractors and trailers.


AWARDS & RECOGNITION
Sitton Motor Lines honored these drivers for reaching more than a million miles with the carrier: Jerry Chesnut of Sherman, Texas; Eric Carr of Potlatch, Idaho; Wes Hughes of El Reno, Okla.; Joe Tolliver of St. Louis; Eddie Brazil of Bethlehem, Ga.; Weyman Parmley of Joplin, Mo.; Thornie Brailsford of Sumter, S.C.; William Stratz of Mountain View, Mo.; Christopher Brazel of Oklahoma City; and Jackie Stutts of Brandon, Miss.

Landstar recognized 64 of its safest drivers. Of those, George F. Gilmour Jr. of Lawrenceville, Pa., and Jennings “Frank” Neal, of Cookeville, Tenn., were honored for each completing 2 million safe miles.

Old Dominion Freight Line recognized 230 of its drivers for achieving 1 million miles without a preventable accident. Of those, 201 attained more than 1 million accident-free miles, 22 logged more than 2 million miles, five logged more 3 million miles, one logged 4 million miles and one completed more than 5 million miles.

Paschall Truck Lines awarded these Driver of the Month honors:

July – Mike McChristian, Owner-Operator of the Month; Richard Alstat, Company Driver of the Month.
Aug. – Frank Feltner, Owner-Operator of the Month; Lavada Ashcraft, Company Driver of the Month.
Sept. – Michael Waring, Owner-Operator of the Month; Rhonda Gates, Company Driver of the Month.

Werner Enterprises driver Charley Endorf, 54, of Fairbury, Neb., recently reached 4 million accident-free miles. Endorf joined Werner in 1976.
