NEW TIRES FROM CONTINENTAL
Continental Tire North America introduced seven new tires for the heavy and severe-service truck markets. The tires include the HSU, which is a 10,000 pound rated tire with 24/32-inch tread depth, and cut- and tear-resistant tread. The new HTL trailer tire is built for extended mileage and resistance to rapid shoulder wear in the long-haul market. The HSC is an all-position tire with a curb rib to reduce damage from curbing and cuts. The HSC has a stone ejection system to reduce stone retention and casing penetration.

SMART TRACTION CONTROL
Bendix ABS with Smart ATC is an automatic traction control system with the ability to distinguish and respond to two of the most demanding traction scenarios. These are accelerating uphill (requiring more traction) and driving into a curve (requiring more stability). Smart ATC responds with the appropriate level of traction control for each situation, giving more power to the driver as soon as warranted.

American Durabilt’s stainless steel bumpers are offered in sizes compatible with most models of Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Western Star, International and Mack trucks. Custom bumpers can be special ordered. The bumpers come with a lifetime warranty against rusting, chipping and peeling.
VE 465 HP POWER CURVE IMPROVED
The VE 465, engineered to meet the October 2002 emission regulations, has an improved horsepower curve, compared to Volvo’s previous 465-hp rating. Although it has the same peak torque of 1650 pounds-feet, the new VE 465 has a flatter power output curve, which means drivers can access peak power through more of the engine’s range. Horsepower is maintained at 465 hp from 1500 rpm through 1825 rpm.

HEAVY-DUTY IMPACT WRENCH
This “super duty” impact wrench from ATP has a 1 1/2-in. square drive. The ATP1578LT-TH incorporates the company’s “proven ball and cam type clutch, which converts air motor torque into powerful rotary impacts,” says ATP.

BOOSTER CABLE CONNECT SYSTEM
The Safe-T-Connect booster cable system allows an operator of one vehicle to jump another vehicle without opening the hood of the vehicle equipped with this system. Superior Signals says the system comes with either two or four-gauge wiring and includes one booster cable, one vehicle harness, one dust cover, and all associated mounting hardware.
KENWORTH T800 EXTENDED DAY CAB
Kenworth Truck Co. will soon introduce a T800 extended day cab dump truck that has more room and storage space. It has an additional 6 inches in cab length and a roof raised 5 inches from its level on the company’s traditional day cab. The result is “2 more inches in driver belly and leg room, more head room, and a full 21 degrees of recline in the driver’s seat,” the company says. The truck also has an additional 21/2 cubic feet of interior storage.

Ridewell Suspensions’ Mono-Lift 225 auxiliary axle suspension has a 25,000-pound capacity for vocational truck applications. The non-steerable, air-ride/air-lift unit is 100 pounds lighter than previous units designed for 22,000-pound and 25,000-pound capacity axles. The unit offers a new alignment feature that allows easy adjustment over a 1/-inch range. A contoured axle seat optimizes axle weld points by decreasing stress concentrations.
CLASSIC XL GETS AIRTEK SUSPENSION
Hendrickson International’s Airtek front suspension is now available on the Freightliner Classic XL. “Testing demonstrates improvements of up to 30 percent in ride and 64 percent in roll stability when compared to traditional steel spring and I-beam axle front suspensions,” says the company. The suspension system is 90 pounds lighter than a standard leaf-and-a-half spring front suspension and I-beam axle.
NEW GOODYEAR STEER TIRE
Goodyear’s new long-haul steer tire is designed to give long-haul operators uniform wear, more miles to removal and better retreadability. The tire’s five-rib tread design “features a barrel footprint to optimize tread wear performance,” the company says. As the original tread wears down, jagged or angled groove walls across the footprint are exposed to “maximize traction and handling and give better bite.”

MIXER OFFERS HIGH OFF-ROAD TRACTION
The Autocar Xpeditor WX low-cab-over engine concrete mixer “delivers superior off-road traction, stability and productivity compared to conventional mixer trucks equipped with all-wheel-drive.” The truck combines the Dana-Spicer Tire Pressure Control System and the “exclusive Autocar T-Ride Suspension, which is proven to maintain excellent traction over rough, uneven terrain,” the company says.
