NEW PETERBILT SUSPENSION
Peterbilt says its new Low Air Leaf Suspension is the industry’s lightest standard-duty tandem air suspension, providing “better ride quality, reduced maintenance and increased ground clearance.” The proprietary suspension is available for all Peterbilt models. It is 325 pounds lighter than the previous Low Air Leaf Suspension and has an improved 40,000-pound load rating. The suspension has 45 percent fewer parts than its predecessor and features a redesigned frame bracket, leaf spring, axle seat and axle clamp.
CRANKCASE FILTRATION SYSTEM
The Spiracle Filtration System from Donaldson Co. is a closed crankcase filtration system that “uses an innovative, two-stage coalescing process to efficiently reduce entrained oil mist while maintaining crankcase pressures,” the company says.
Mounted between the engine crankcase breather port and air intake system, the system filters and then routes blow-by gases back to the air intake. This helps reduce in-cab fumes and keeps engine enclosures free from oil film deposits.
INTEGRATED TRAILER SUSPENSION
Ridewell Suspensions’ new Ridelite lightweight trailer air suspension has a 25,000-pound capacity and is designed for platform, tank, dump, grain and specialized trailers. The system offers a variety of 5-inch round, non-captured axles to allow for axle maintenance or replacement while preserving other parts. Its manual clamp-in pivot bushing can be installed or replaced with common shop tools.
CUMMINS ADDS 385-HP ISX
Cummins’ 385-hp ISX 385 ST is designed for operators who need a higher displacement engine with increased durability, for use in applications that don’t require an engine brake. The engine has 1450 pounds-feet of torque except in the top two gears, where it produces1550 pounds-feet.
MARTIN MARIETTA PLANS NEW POLYMER TRAILER
Martin Marietta Composites is entering the commercial trailer market with a 50-foot, live-floor transfer trailer with a weight of 12,800 pounds, a capacity of 132 cubic yards and a GVWR of 68,000 pounds. The trailer will be virtually 100 percent glass-fiber reinforced polymer.
The company says the advantages of the trailer include significantly lower tare weight, higher capacity, longer life, lower operating costs, increased strength and durability and non-corrosiveness. Production is expected to begin in the third quarter.
NEW PRODUCTS FROM MARMON
Marmon Group subsidiaries have introduced new products, including Stabil-Air, a value-priced air suspension system manufactured by Detroit Steel Products. Stabil-Air offers exceptional ride and handling, as well as strong straight-line stability and comfort, the company says.
Fontaine International has introduced its 3000 Series, low-cost, lightweight, low-maintenance fifth wheel, and its new, Low Lube fifth wheel.
Fontaine Specialized has a new 353-WDMR low-dock-height, adjustable, removable-gooseneck trailer.
Webb Wheel offers BTS self-cleaning, cool-running brake drums for severe-service applications.

NEW WHEEL END COMPONENTS
Consolidated Metco’s new PreSet ductile iron trailer hubs use a spacer to positively set the bearing clearance. The hub and its components are machined to exacting tolerance, including higher-precision bearings. The optimum bearing setting is guaranteed and retained for the serviceable life of the hub assembly. The company says with periodic inspections, service intervals can extend up to 500,000 miles.
NEW ODOR CONTROL DEVICE OFFERED
Hi-Tach’s odor control product for truck cabs, Fleet Sweet, does not mask odors, but removes them completely from surfaces and the air, the company says. Fleet Sweet is available at truck stops and dealerships.

TELEFLEX INTRODUCES IMPROVED POWER UNIT
Teleflex has released a streamlined edition of its Proheat auxiliary power unit. The Proheat Gen4 has tapered corners to fit under current fairings. Two removable panels allow for easy access to service components, and larger-capacity air and fuel filters extend service intervals to 600 hours. The oil change interval has been increased to 400 hours. Teleflex has reduced the noise level of the APU by five decibels and included an illuminated touch pad control panel for controlling the sleeper environment. The Proheat Gen4 costs about $6,500.
X-L ADDS TRAILERS
X-L Specialized Trailers has added a sliding axle trailer, the Slider, and a folding tail trailer, the Hydraulic.

DANA’S NEW TRAILER SUSPENSION, HUB SYSTEM
The Dana Spicer RF Series Air Ride Trailer Suspension module was designed to meet the needs of the flatbed and tanker trailer markets. Dana is offering the low-maintenance suspension with a number of hanger options, such as a weld-on version and a bolt-on version with multiple top plate configurations that can be customized to meet trailer manufacturers’ needs. Both designs have reinforced internal gussets to improve strength.
Also, the new Dana Spicer Unitized Hub System provides lower life cycle costs with the reliability of a fully assembled axle, brake and hub package.
FILTER MAKERS CO-BRAND PRODUCTS
Honeywell’s Consumer Products Group and Puradyn Filter Technologies have agreed to co-brand their oil filtration products, combining full-flow filters from Fram with the Bypass Oil Filtration System from Puradyn.

TRUCK-LITE EXPANDS SIGNAL-STAT LINE
Truck-Lite Co. has expanded its Signal-Stat line to include new LED lamps that draw less current than traditional lamps and are less susceptible to shock and vibration, the company says. The LED lamps use standard mounting holes and adapt to existing lamp accessories. The lamps’ electronics are sealed in epoxy to resist corrosion and moisture. They are initially available in 4-inch round and oval stop, turn and tail models and the 2-inch and 2.5-inch round marker clearance models.
GEOGRAPHICALLY ARRANGED ROAD ATLAS
Michelin has published a North America Road Atlas that is arranged geographically instead of alphabetically. Truckers can use “go-to” pointers to trace their route from one map to the next. The atlas includes more than 170 distance charts. An interstate map provides distances and driving times. A city-to-city chart shows distances between major North American cities.
NEW STEER TIRE
Goodyear’s new commercial, long haul-steer tire, the G395 LHS steer, is designed for use with over-the-road fleets and owner operators.
“We have developed an ‘evolving’ five-rib tread design which features a barrel footprint to optimize tread wear performance,” the company says.
The G395 LHS design features lateral sipes and slots on the three main ribs to provide excellent traction and handling. All five ribs feature edge blades for increased treadwear performance. The G395 LHS also utilizes Goodyear’s ECD, (enhanced casing design) puncture-resistant, four-belt package that features high-tensile steel on the three lower belts. The top belt is made with polyamide to protect the steel belt package from moisture.
Remote keyless entry will now be an option for Kenworth’s T2000 model. Users of the remote keyless entry product will be able to unlock driver and passenger doors separately and lock all doors at the same time. Parking lights will flash to signal the desired action has taken place.
